Course Location:

Virtual COSS® courses are offered in real-time during live classes with expert COSS® Instructors. The week-long course features the same innovative and rigorous curriculum as our in-person COSS® training with digital coursework that includes daily compliance moments and proctored exams.

Students will participate in a live 6-hour online session via Zoom Video Conferencing Monday-Friday. Live sessions being at 8:00 am CST. After each session Monday through Thursday, students can work on their own time to complete daily exercises and readings. On the final day, students will participate in an additional 2-hour Zoom session to complete final graded activities including the final exam, final compliance moment and safety presentation. (Course typically ends around 4:30-5:00 pm CST.)

Participation in the course will require the following:

  • Computer with reliable internet access (laptop and/or desktop computer is required).
    • Preference: Dual monitor set up or use of multiple devices (e.g., computer and mobile device) (System not compatible with Surface Pro)
  • Web browser
  • Webcam and microphone
  • Zoom Video Conferencing
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader DC
  • Basic computing skills are required (Note: Refunds will not be issued due to a student’s inability to function in the virtual training setting).
  • Email address for the student (required to be included at the time of registration.)

THE COSS® VIRTUAL PROGRAM IS UNIQUE Not only will you learn how to read and understand the OSHA 1910 and 1926 Code of Federal Regulations and help your company avoid OSHA citations that cost millions of dollars, but more importantly, by learning how to work safely on a job site you can teach your employees and coworkers how to eliminate the risk of fatalities and near misses. Almost 85% of COSS® graduates responding to a survey indicated that since taking COSS®, their company’s injury rate and/or OSHA recordables have decreased by as much as 25%, and others attest to as much as a 100% decrease! The class also addresses the psychology of safety, the true cost of an accident, hazard recognition, how to start a health and safety program, behavior-based safety, and much more.

WHAT YOU WILL RECEIVE Upon successfully completing the program, you will obtain your National Certified Occupational Safety Specialist (COSS) designation. COSS® has sought the stamp of approval from third party organizations that help customers sort out the best from the rest. COSS® has received national recognition from a variety of organizations. All course materials will be transmitted to the student electronically via email or through the class portal. Students who pass virtual COSS and COSM will only receive a digital course certificate.

Each class has a mix of non-experienced, first-time safety personnel as well as safety professionals who have been in the safety field for over 20 years. How early should I register for this course?

Registrations must be received at least two weeks in advance to ensure enrollment is received, processed, and communicated to COSS in time for materials and log-in information to be sent to the student.

What is the cancellation policy for this course?

CANCELLATIONS MUST BE RECEIVED IN WRITING AT LEAST 14 DAYS PRIOR TO CLASS START DATE IN ORDER TO RECEIVE A PARTIAL REFUND.


ALL CANCELLATIONS ARE SUBJECT TO A $25 PROCESSING FEE. CANCELLATIONS RECEIVED BETWEEN 14 AND 7 DAYS BEFORE THE START OF CLASS WILL BE REFUNDED 50% OF THE COST OF THE CLASS.


CANCELLATIONS MADE LESS THAN 7 DAYS FROM THE START OF CLASS WILL NOT BE REFUNDED.

Do I need to do to renew my COSS/COSM credentials?

Graduates are required to renew their COSS/COSM credentials every three years. Students should apply for recertification by December 31 of the third full year of their recertification cycle.  Visit: Recertification - Certified Occupational Safety Specialist Series (cosstraining.org) to recertify. 

Is there an in-person option for this course?

Yes. In-person courses are available and are listed on the Oklahoma Safety Council's on-line course catalogue. Please be advised, in-person courses have a minimum attendee requirement and may be cancelled two weeks prior to the course if enrollment does not meet the minimum number of attendees.
